Partial chemical analysis of the calcareous red alga Galaxaura oblongata [Philippines].

Proximate analysis showed that the calcareous red alga Galaxaura oblongata has a low protein and a high ash content. A polysaccharide was also isolated as an off-white powder, chemical and spectral studies suggest that it is a sulfated polysaccharide related to the carrageenans.
