L' entretien des sols viticoles [en Suisse].

The choice of a soil management method depends closely on soil and climate conditions and on the structure of the viticultural estate. In narrow plantings which are not fit for mechanical work with tractors, the absence of cultivation is most frequent. Weeding methods which permit the growth of a natural winter flora favour a better control of soil erosion and limit nitrogen losses during winter. In vineyards with semi-large and large interspacings, a grass cover is often sown in. An intense competition by the grass for water and nitrogen may be harmful to the quality of the wine (Chasselas). Various management techniques are proposed in order to reconcile soil cover with a suitable water and nitrogen supply for the vines.
