Pertraction can be considered as a combination of extraction and stripping, carried out simultaneously in one equipment. Nowadays, two basic designs of hollow fiber pertractors can be distinguished: the longitudinal flow and the transverse flow pertractors. The objective of this paper is to report the construction of a novel transverse flow pertractor. Hydrophilic regenerated cellulose hollow fibers, of 156 mm effective length and 0.2 mm outer diameter, were used in making this module. The results indicated that our transverse flow hollow fiber module avoids most of the shortcomings of conventional longitudinal flow modules.
