A modification to the patch budding is described by which the chip bud is placed into an open slot with the wedged tips inserted under the flaps of bark of the rootstock or variety to be grafted. This method is specially designed for those cases in which old fruit trees have to be reconverted into new varieties or species, due to the greater thickness of the bark.
