In 40-day longterm toxicity trial the rats were treated with 210, 120 or 30 mg/kg/day of propranolol hydrochloride and 1 ml/kg/day of distilled water-controls, respectively. The following parameters were observed: behaviour of the animals, food consumption and body weight, hematologic parameters and blood chemistry parameters; the organs were weighed and histologically examined. Changes in some parameters indicated certain toxic effects when higher doses of the tested substance were applied.
