Pathological and epidemiological studies on naturally occurring transmissible gastroenteritis (TGE) complicated with candidiasis were conducted in a herd of 302 newly born piglets of 31 sows. The piglets showed clinical signs of profuse watery diarrhoea, vomiting and dehydration. Morbidity and mortality rates were 100%. Gross pathological findings were enlargement of small intestines especially jejunum with their thin walls distended by yellowish serous fluid mixed with shreds of undigested milk curd. The stomachs were full of whitish milk curd with ulcers in cardiac gland region. The histopathological examination revealed atrophy of villous epithelium and hyperplasia of crypt epithelium of jejunum and ulcerative gastritis with the presence of pseudomycelia of yeast in the ulcers. Candida spp. was isolated and identified fronm the gastric ulcers. Electron microscopy of villous epithelial cells revealed corona virus particles in cytoplasmic vacuoles and between microvilli of absorptive cells of villous epithelium. The microvilli of the absorptive cells were sparse, irregular and short.
