The metabolic significance of mammalian fatty-acid-binding proteins: abundant proteins in search of a function.
1987
Sweetser D.A. | Heuckeroth R.O. | Gordon J.I.
A technical report provides an overview of current knowledge concerning the metabolic significance of the extraordinarily abundant mammalian cellular proteins, the fatty acid-binding protein (FABP's). Attention is given to: a brief review of eukaryotic long-chain fatty acid metabolism; evidence that mammalian FABP's may play distinct roles in different tissues; and metabolic in vivo studies of FAPB's relative to fatty acid metabolism and heart function. Future research needs also are addressed.(wz).
