The organization and implementation of a summer food program in El Paso, Texas are detailed. From El Paso's total of 62 schools, 49 district school areas had access to the program. Children from preschool age through 18 years of age and those in handicapped and special education programs participated. More than 350 children flocked to some of the sites. The meals of sandwich, vegetable, milk and fruit resulted in little plate waste. The benefits of the program include the provision of nutritious meals to children and extra employment for the workers.
