English. Ten almond (Prunus Amygdalus L. Batsch) cultivars growing in the Tuscan coastal area of Italy were treated with Ethrel and/or shaken mechanically. Mechanial shaking gave the best percentage increase of nut removal only on cultivars where the main production was on one-year shots. Total fruit removal was induced only on "Peerless" and "Ne Plus Ultra", and only by mechanical shaking. Total removal was obtained by hand picking, but it required more time (9 to 60%) than mechanical shaking. Chemical treatment alone on "Ne Plus Ultra", "Davey" and "Yaltano" produced 16 to 20% removal. However, if followed by mechanical shaking, fruit removal was increased from 80 to 100%.
