The article discusses the use of personal computers (PC's) in regional rural development. The PC can be an effective aid in all phases of work ranging from project planning, to monitoring, data acquisition and evaluation to project administration. However, any PC is only as good as its operator. Therefore, in the opinion of the authors, hardware and software should be included in the basic training of all field staff. Fears as regards computers have to be overcome, not so much to save costs or even jobs, but to improve the work.
