Extract: This investigation reports the psychological characteristics as well as the success of a weight reduction program using a supplemental fasting protocol. The data demonstrated that a very low calorie diet supplemented by behavioral-oriented group support promoted significant weight loss. A subset of the original study group, followed up at 18 months, revealed that over-all weight loss was only 4.2 per cent of their original weight. Individuals who were older and less able to express emotional distress did less well at follow-up.(author).
