Impact of carbohydrates in maize in vitro androgenesis.

Among a collection of seven sugars sucrose was found to be most suitable in maize anther culture AC, when added during autoclaving, allowed for a further improvement of the culture response. Indirect evidence is given that beneficial AC effects could be related to an increased sucrose hydrolysis as it occurs after autoclaving of AC-containing media.
