The ultra structure of the pigment cells in the Asiatic land salamander (Hynobius leechi) dorsal skin was obtained by means of electron microscope. The pigment cells of the epidermis consisted of the melanocytes in the germinal layer and of the melanophores distributing to the keratinocyte layer. The pigment cells in the dermis were composed of the xanthophores just beneath basement membrane and the melanophores in the connective tissue.
