Sarcocystis cysts was obtained from esophageal mucles of slaughtered buffaloes in Bangkok were given to 4 dogs and 2 cats at the dose of 6 gm/head. Two of the dogs and the 2 cats were under 1 year old, the other two dogs were over 1 year old. Fecal examination revealed that 2 dogs of over 1 year old shed the sporocysts on Day 18 and 21 after infection. From 16 sporocysts found in dog feces, the sizes were between on day 13 and 15 after infection; and from 10 sporocysts 15-17.5mu long and 9.5-12.5mu wide. Two cats shed sporocysts found, the sizes were 12.5-15mu long and 7.5-10 mu wide. The morphologies of the sporocysts found from dogs and cats were elliptical with two-layered surfaced and colorless. Each sporocysts from dogs had 4 sporozoites with small granule residue on one pole. Sporocysts from cats did not clearly show the sporozoites but showed granule residue extending from one pole to the middle of sporocysts. The evidence confirms that sarcocystis cysts from buffaloes can develop in dog and cat.
