Research on vitamin-cancer relationship getting big boost.
1982
Gunby Phil
The National Cancer Institute plans to initiate a broad-scale study of the effects of vitamins on cancer as part of a cancer chemoprevention program. The announcement is seen as an indication of increased support for research into vitamin-cancer relationships. Advances in cytology and biochemistry have allowed investigation of basic mechanisms, cellular receptors and therapeutic uses of vitamins and their derivatives. Considerable evidence does exist that certain vitamins or synthetic analogues have inhibitory effects on cancer. Current research results using vitamins A, C, D, E, and K are reported.
