English. A survey has been made on tumors from horses examined at the Dipartmento di Patologia Animale of Turin University during the past seven years. The prevalence was 6.3% (59 horses with tumors out of 935 animals examined). The most commonly occurring sites were: skin (40%), male external genitalia (13.3%), eye (8.3%), thyroid (5%) and kidney. Papilloma (13.3%), squamous cell carcinoma (10%), equine sarcoid (10%) and melanoma (either benign or malignant, 8.3%) were the prevailing types. The results have been compared with those of other reports.
Show more [+] Less [-]ITALIANO: Tra il 01.01.1988 e il 31.12.1994, sono stati osservati 60 tumori in 59 dei 935 cavalli registrati nell'archivio della sezione di Anatomia Patologica del Dipartimento di Patologia Animale dell'Universita' di Torino. Il numero di lesioni maligne era simile a quello delle neoplasie benigne (rispettivamente 29 e 31). In ordine, le sedi piu' frequentemente interessate erano: cute (40%), genitali maschili esterni (13.3%), occhio (8.3%), tiroide (5%) e rene (5%). Tra i tipi istologici tumorali, prevalevano papillomi (13.3%), carcinomi squamocellulari (10%), sarcoidi (10%) e tumori melanocitari (8.3%). I risultati ottenuti sono stati confrontati con quelli della letteratura.
