The Swedish Landrace breed of pigs was imported in Yugoslavia in the sixties of this century, and today it is the most numerous meat type breed (over 65 per cent) in the cereal growing areas of Serbia, especially in Vojvodina. For its good production traits it is raised as purebred, and crossed also with other meaty breed from the dam side. The aim of the investigation was to find the most important production traits of gilts by using the direct test: lifetime daily gain, age up to 100 kg of body weight, back fat thickness (on 5 locations) measured by ultrasonic apparatus, and then judgements at the first farrowing and during the exploitation of sows. The task was also to study the effect of genetical factors (sires) and paragenetical factors (year and season of farrowing - Season 1 and Season 2) and to establish the association with the traits mentioned.
