Stylet sheaths can be stained with acid fuchsin dye to note rice bug location on rice panicles and spikelets. On spikelets, 94% were found between the lemma and palea and less than 1% occurred on unfilled grains. Adults fed on milk, soft and hard dough stage panicles but not on other rice growth stages. Females preferred milk and soft dough to hard dough panicles. Rice bugs feed over a 24h period but greatest number of stylet sheaths were produced during early morning and late afternoon.
