The degradation behaviour of the soil insecticides carbofuran and chlorfenvinphos were compared under outdoor conditotions with the equivalent DT50-values (disappearance time) from laboratory experiments. Field soil samples were available from an ungrown glass bed treated partly one or eleven times with the pesticides in question. On the other hand, soil samples were taken from field spots at two locations (Braunschweig and Bonn) where radish had been grown and the insecticides had been row applied. Under laboratory conditions both insecticides from soils treated several times showed significantly higher degradation than from samples treated once. DT50-values for carbofuran and chlorfenvinphos were 2 and 15 days or 3 and 6 days respectively. Similar but not significant results were obtained under outdoor conditions.
