An empirical formula for the oblique sequence of the annual ring width proposed by Duff and Nolan.
1990
Yoshida T. | Kanemitsu K.
The authors composed an empirical formula for the pattern of the oblique sequence of ring width proposed by Duff and Nolan. The formula was a mixed curve of the probability density function of the gamma distribution with an exponential function and fitted to the ring width of Sugi (Cryptomeria japonica) of 76 years old. It was poor fit at the portion where the pattern of the sequence of ring width differed from the probability density function in the tree top and there was poor fitness at the butt where the ring width increased rapidly in that place. Except such cases, the formula seemed to fit the pattern adequately throughout the sequence.
