Effect of organizational participation of the rural youths on development activities [of Bangladesh].

This study was undertaken to know the nature of organizational participation of rural youths in some selected development activities and explore the relationship between their organizational participation and involvement with those activities. Efforts were also made to draw a comparative picture on the span of leisure time used by the rural youth. data were collected from a sample of 100 male rural youths by interview procedure. It was found that 37 percent of rural youths had their participation as executive members and office bearers while the remaining 63 percent had ordinary participation. Statistical analysis showed that development events like willingness to participate in social welfare activities, increased yield gained per hectare of paddy, potentialities of new job opportunities in the rural areas, extent of capital savings and extent of extension contact were positively correlated with organizational participation. However, willingness to adopt family planning and birth control measures did not show any significant relationship with organizational participation of the rural youths. It was also observed that a major amount of the leisure time of the youths were spent in actions like gossiping, radio hearing, political activities, card playing and organizational activities.
