The present paper deals with the estimation of diosgenin content in 39 genotypes of fenugreek collected from various geographical regions of south India. The maximum diosgenin content was reported from Dioscorea deltiodea which is higher than the content in fenugreek, but the cost:benefit ratio of cultivation of fenugreek is economical than that of Dioscorea species. The presence of variability in diosgenin content in fenugreek indicates a scope of further selection of genotypes for diosgenin content.
