Comparative study on karyotypes and C-banding of two Patanga species in Guizhou [China].

A comparative study on the karyotypes and C-banding of two Patanga species in Guizhou of China were conducted by microscopy. The results showed that the chromosome number of both species are 2n (male) = 22 + X0 = 23, and they are all terminal chromosomes. The karyotype formulae are 2n (male) = 2X + 23t and NF = 23. The total chromosome length of Patanga japonica (79.75 +- 2.22 +- m) exceeds that of P. succincta (71.47 +- 0.63 +- m); and the total absolute of heterochromatin of Patanga japonica (35.65) is more abundant than that of P. succincta (18.70). The Patanga japonica's karyotype belongs to "IB", and the P. succincta's belongs to "IC".
