Wetland soils of the world, their characterization and distribution in the FAO-UNESCO approach.
1984
Diepen C.A. van
Two concepts of wetlands are distinguished, a genetic concept used for the definition of hydromorphic properties, and a utilitarian concept that would be more suitable for use in land evaluation. The place of hydromorphic soils in the FAO-UNESCO Legend is discussed. Suggestions are made for the characterization by means of a hydrograph of soil wetness regimes for land evaluation purposes. Possibilities to inventory hydromorphic soils on the basis of the soil map of the world with and without application of map unit composition rules are evaluated.
