The results are presented of a 1:100 000 soil survey of 212 000 ha in the Lower Burdekin Valley. It is the final of a series of 3 surveys undertaken to assess the suitability of the area for irrigation. There have been changes since the survey in 1980 to land use and management and more information has been obtained on the soils from high intensity surveys in other parts of the district. Part A presents a summary of soil and land use information that will meet the immediate needs of many users. Part B sets out full details of the physical environment, soils, soil chemistry and land use implications.
