In this paper serious efforts are made in proving that sugar-beet root processing with accompanying dirt (weeds, leaves, soil, stone) can only be possible in the cases when appropriate systems for removing the dirt are of the highest efficiency. This, however, requires a lot of machines, break downs, maintenance interventions, a lot of energy. Two variants of the system are compared and the conclusion is that the former variant which used to perform well doesn't satisfy the needs when the quantity of dirt increases. Good results are attained with a heavier and much more expensive variant. It is indicated that there is space for certain rationalizations on existing machines and systems, for technical resources have not been exploited sufficiently.
