At the Vista Alegre and Santa Rosa Experiment Farms of the Universidad Austral de Chile, a research was carried out to study the evolution of primary factors which determine fermentative ability of four forage resources in four phenological stages during normal silage cutting period, and differences among them. Also some chemical composition parameters were determined and compared. Resources studied were permanent pasture, Italian ryegrass var. Tama, oats var. Nehuen, and lupine var. Aurea. The four phenological stages at harvest were, for grasses: spike preemergency, spike emergency, flowering and milky grain. In lupin stages included were: beginning of first, pod in first flowering, beginning of second flowering, and pod in second flowering. From each phenological stage at the four forage resources three replicates were used. The forage resources studied were: permanent pasture, Italian ryegrass var. Tama, oats var.
