ITALIANO: Possibili miglioramenti del sistema fitosanitario di quarantena in Italia devono essere studiati alla luce di cio che avviene internazionalmente. Uno sforzo da parte dell'Italia potrebbe essere infruttuoso se la situazione nei paesi circostanti rimane inalterata. Produttiva dovrebbe invece essere la creazione di una Stazione mediterranea di quarantena articolata nei seguenti settori: (1) Centri di istruzione; (2) Centri di moltiplicazione di materiale sano; (3) Centri di informazione; (4) Servizi diagnostici. L'Italia e proposta come sede migliore per un tale tipo di iniziativa, in considerazione della sua collocazione al centro del Mediterraneo, della sua capacita tecnica e scientifica e per la presenza a Roma della FAO.
Show more [+] Less [-]English. Possible improvements in phytosanitation and quarantine in Italy must be considered in the light of what is happening internationally. An effort on the part of Italy alone would appear to be fruitless if the situation in surrounding countries remains unaltered. The establishment of a Mediterranean Region Quarantine Station composed of the following organizations: (1) Instruction Centres; (2) Centres for Propagation of Healthy Material; (3) Information Centres; and (4) Diagnostic Service Centres, would be fruitful. Italy is suggested as the country for such an initiative because of its central location, its technical and scientific capability and because of the presence of FAO Headquarters.
