Transport and distribution of silver ions in cut gerbera inflorescences. [Conference paper].

Nowak J.
Tracer silver applied as a negatively charged silver thiosulphate complex moved freely in gerbera stem while AgNO(,3) made negligible movement. The movement of 110 m Ag with NaEDTA and with 8-HQC plus sucrose was much slower than that of tracer silver with sodium thiosulphate. Determination of radioactivity in dissected gerbera parts revealed the greatest amount of 110m Ag in the receptacle tissue when inflorescences were kept in the silver thiosulphate solution. The results obtained after uptake of silver nitrate with NaEDTA solution and silver nitrate radioactivity appeared in the stem base and in the upper NaEDTA solution prolonged gerbera vase-life and counteracted the ethephon effect.
