Equalized versus ad libitum feeding.
1984
Baker David H.
An important area in current nutrition research is reviewed; viz., the use of controlled (or "equalized") feeding vs. ad libitum ("free") feeding. Differences in interpreting the findings of nutrition studies can occur depending upon which type of feeding was used. Ad libitum feeding often does not permit a separation of the food intake response from the metabolic efficiency response, while controlled feeding may alter the food ingestion pattern such that crystalline nutrients are absorbed from the gut faster than bound nutrients. Approaches to circumvent these problems are discussed. (wz).
