An experiment was conducted on the Mediterranean Ortict soil in Muneng Sub Station during the dry season 1989 to know the effect of growth regulator Alar and Ethrel on growth and peanut yield. Split plot design was used with three replications. The main plot was four treatments of plant growth regulator : 1. Ethrel was applied with whole dosage 1.2 l/ha at 28, 42 and 56 days after sowing; 2. Alar 85 was applied with whole dosage 1.1 kg/ha at 28 and 56 days after sowing; 3. Combination of Alar and Ethrel; 4. Control (without plant growth regulator). The sub plot was nine varieties of peanut: a. Banteng; b. Gajah; c. Kidang; d. Macan; e. Pelanduk; f. Tapir; g. Kelinci; h. Local Genteng and i. Local Tuban. The experiment result showed that treatment of Alar 85 and combination of Alar 85 and Ethrel positively inhibited peanut plant growth at 40, 60 and 80 DAS. Otherwise Ethrel did not affect peanut plant growth. The shortest peanut plant was Kelinci and local Genteng. Alar 85 increased yield significantly and decreased pod weight, pod number/plant and yield. Combination of Alar and Ethrel decreased pod number/plant. Yield component and yield difference between peanut varieties were significant. The highest yield component and yield of peanut variety was Kelinci. There was no interaction between plant growth regulator and peanut variety.
