The article gave an overall view of the status and problems of shallot cultivation in Peninsular Malaysia. It also reviewed the various research studies and their findings on shallots, especially the problem of the 'white tip' symptom. These studies include those on selection, agronomy, physiology and pathology. Recommendations were also made with regards to the cultivation of shallots.
