Histochemical identification of the glycocalyx layer in the bovine oviduct and endometrium.
1980
Wordinger R.J. | Amsler K.R.
The uterine cornuae, isthmuses, ampullae and infundibula of 23 virgin heifers were removed on different days of the estrous cycle, paraffin embedded, sectioned and stained using a battery of carbohydrate histochemical procedures. The histochemical reactivity of the luminal surface of the mucosal epithelium indicated the presence of an acidic glycoprotein containing sulfate, and sialic acid reactive groups. This acidic glycoprotein layer (i.e. glycocalyx) did not vary with either the stage of estrous cycle or the proximity of the developing follicle or corpus luteum.
