Response of three rose varieties to Peronospora sparsa Berkeley infection in greenhouse conditions | Caracterización de la respuesta de tres variedades de rosa a la infección de Peronospora sparsa Berkeley, bajo condiciones de invernadero

Plantas sanas de rosa de las variedades 'Charlotte', 'Classy' y 'First Red' injertadas en los portainjertos 'Natal Briar' y 'Manetti' y como estacas se inocularon con una suspensión de esporangios de Peronospora sparsa. Posterior a la inoculación, las plantas se mantuvieron por un período de 12 h bajo condiciones de cámara de humedad en condiciones de oscuridad y luego bajo condiciones ambientales normales del invernadero. Los síntomas de la enfermedad se registraron inicialmente en las hojas de las tres variedades 7 días después de la inoculación (ddi). La aparición de síntomas típicos en los tallos se observó 17 y 18 ddi en la variedad 'Charlotte' y entre 21 y 28 ddi en las variedades 'Classy' y 'First Red'. Los síntomas en el botón floral se presentaron 14 ddi en la variedad 'Classy', entre 14 y 16 ddi en la variedad 'Charlotte' y entre 16 y 26 ddi en la variedad 'First Red' . La caída de hojas afectadas se presentó primero en la variedad 'Classy' 12 ddi, en 'Charlotte' entre 18 y 28 ddi y en la variedad 'First Red' entre 15 y 28 ddi. En la incidencia de la enfermedad no se encontró interacción entre la variedad y el estrato de la planta. En la investigación se observó un efecto particular de la condición de injertación sobre cada una de las etapas de desarrollo del patógeno y de la enfermedad en las diferentes variedades.

Healthy 'Charlotte', 'Classy' and 'First Red' variety rose plants grafted onto 'Natal Briar' and 'Manetti' rootstocks and others rooted directly were inoculated with a sporangial suspension of Peronospora sparsa and then incubated for 12 h in a moisture chamber in the dark. After that, plants were kept in normal greenhouse conditions. Symptoms of downy mildew were first observed in plants from the three tested varieties on leaves seven days after sporangia inoculation. The symptoms on stems occurred 17 and 18 d after inoculation in 'Charlotte' and between 21 and 28 d in 'Classy' and 'First Red'. The symptoms on flower buds appeared 14 and 16 d after inoculation in 'Charlotte', 14 d after inoculation in 'Classy' and between 16 and 26 d in 'First Red' plants. Defoliation of affected leaves first occurred in 'Classy' 12 d after inoculation. This reaction was observed in 'Charlotte' from 18 to 28 d and in 'First Red' plants from 15 to 28 d. No interactions regarding incidence of the disease were observed between rose variety and plant stratum. Not all stages of disease development were similar in the different treatments employed in this research; some differences were observed, depending on the rootstock to which the materials had been grafted.
