Since causative agent of malaria tertiana P.vivax mainly infects young erythrocytes, reticulocytes should be used for its continuous culture. This article discusses various chemical factors that are important for obtaining in vitro a continuous culture of the Plasmodium vivax. The article reviews the literature on the use of reticulocytes in culture, the source and concentration of blood serum, and the effect of cryopreservation on the further development of the parasite in culture. Even though all these factors have been taken into account, it has not yet been possible to obtain a long-term culture of the pathogen. Research in this direction is ongoing.
