Regeneración natural de árboles y arbustos en potreros activos de Nicaragua | Natural regeneration of trees and shrubs in active pastures in Nicaragua

Se compararon la abundancia,riqueza, diversidad y composición de especies de plántulas, juveniles y adultos de árboles y arbustos en 46 potreros activos en el municipio de Muy Muy, Nicaragua, para identificar su capacidad potencial para regenerarse de manera natural en potreros activos. En total, se encontraron 6.379 plántulas (altura < 30 cm), 5.698 juveniles (altura > 30 cm y dap < 10 cm) y 1.769 adultos (dap > 10 cm) pertenecientes a 85 especies de árboles y arbustos. Treinta y siete especies presentaron altas probabilidades de regenerarse naturalmente, mientras que otras presentaron limitaciones en diferentes momentos. Estos resultados indican que bajo condiciones de manejo extensivo existe un alto potencial para el establecimiento de sistemas silvopastoriles mediante el manejo de la regeneración natural.

The abundance, richness, diversity and species composition of seedlings, saplings and adult trees and shrubs were compared in 46 active pastures in the municipality of Muy Muy, Matagalpa,Nicaragua, in order to identify their potential to naturally regenerate in active pastures. A total of 6,378 seedlings (height < 30 cm), 5,698 saplings (height > 30 cm and dbh < 10 cm) and 1,769 adults (dbh > 10cm) from 85 tree and shrub species were found. Thirty seven species had high regeneration rates in active pastures, while the remaining species showed possible limitations at different stages of regeneration. These results indicate that under the current extensive management conditions there is a high potential for establishing silvopastoral systems using natural regeneration.
