This paper presents results of investigation possibilities of inducing fertility oestrus out of mating season by application of exogenous hormones, i.e. the possibilities of increasing the number of lambs per ewe a year. The investigation was carried out under production conditions. Vaginal sponges with progestine (30 mg of Medroxyprogesterone acetate - MGA) were used and an injection of 8 ml of serum from mares in foal was applied I.M. once. On the basis of the results achieved following conclusions were drawn: -After the application of combined sex and gonadotropic hormones it is possible to expect a high rate of inducement and good synchronization of the occurrence of oestrus. -Mating when oestrus is induced results in a high rate of conception and lambing and in a satisfactory number of lambs per ewe. The dosage of hormonal substances applied does not cause a significant increase of ovulation rate, that is, it does not result in an increased number of lambs as compared with the number of lambs brought after mating in a spontaneous, natural oestrous period.
