The influence of seed spacing and fertilization with nitrogen was investigated. The experiment was established on the chernozem type of soil with Novosadska rana variety. It comprized 6 spacings (400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 sprouting grains/sq m) and 4 intensity levels of fertilization with N (90, 120, 150 and 180 kg/ha). The following was found: -With increased seed spacing the number of ears increases, but it is not proportional to the number of planted seeds, being the highest in the thinnest seeding. Fertilization with N was in a low interaction with the number of ears. With the increase of the dose up to 120 kg N/ha the number of ears decreases and with higher quantities it remains on the same level or decreases. The productive tillering coefficient decreases with increased seed spacing. It was the highest at the seeding rate of 400 sprouted grains per sq m and the lowest with the thickest seeding. This decrease was more or less uniform. The highest productive tillering was with the interaction of 400 sprouted grains per sq m and 180 kg N/ha. According to two-year data, the thickest seeding, the shorter was the ear. The lenght of ears increased with increased intensity of fertilizing with N. With the increased seed spacing the number of grains in an ear decreases. The investigated seed spacing and treatment with N influenced the mass of grains in an ear. It was the highest in the variant with 90 kg N/ha. The highest yield of the grain was with the seed spacing of 600-800 sprouted grains (depending on the year) and with 120 kg N/ha.
