This paper presents results of investigating a long-term development tendency of tobacco production in Herzegovina (Yugoslavia), results of work productivity and economy of production on a private plantation. The study is divided in 6 chapters: introduction, production regions, economic and technical position of tobacco, long-term development tendencies, work productivity and production economy. The first chapter presents the subject, literature data and the method of the work. The second chapter gives a historical survey of tobacco growing in Herzegovina and describes the regions where tobacco is grown today. The third chapter describes the position of tobacco in a private household economy, system and parity of prices, export of tobacco and its products and relative position of the producers in the production cycle. The fourth chapter describes trends of the scope of production, participation of Herzegovina in tobacco production in Yugoslavia and development regularities shown. The chapter on productivity describes technological stages, human labour, machine work and means of production. The sixth chapter gives an economic analysis of production.
