This paper presents the effects of improvement of pop-corn on the increased yield and better grain quality. The experimental work comprised 4 hybrids, progeny of an F-2 hybrid generation, 5 synthetics and 12 local varieties. The following was concluded: The yield and quality of hybrid grain surpass those of the investigated synthetics and local pop-corn varieties. The quality of the product determines better and more uniform popping of the grain, i.e. the percentage of popped grain, the volume and volume increase coefficient. The achieved results confirm that the given properties can be introduced into hybrids by improvement methods. The Bc 503 pc hybrid is the best of the investigated hybrids. Apart from the stated properties, it is distinguished by early maturation, low water content in the grain (17.9%) and a firm stalk. Some of the investigated varieties were distinguished by the yield, quality, earliness or stalk firmness and will be used for self-fertilizing pop-corn lines improvement. Stalk firmness is one of the main and not easily achieved properties and it is the hardest to incorporate into hybrids, but positive results can be achieved, which is confirmed by Bc 503 pc hybrid.
