Staphylococcus hyicus subsp. hyicus: Serotypes and susceptibility to some penicillin antibiotics
1984
Hajsig, D. (Veterinarski fakultet, Zagreb (Yugoslavia))
87 epizootiologically unrelated types of Staphylococcus hyicus subsp. hyicus bacteria isolated from piglets with exudative epidermitis were included in investigation. The conclusion was that all the investigated types are very susceptive to applied antibiotics: penicillin G, ampicillin and cloxacillin. This susceptibility was expressed in the range of minimal inhibitory concentration values (MIC) that was from 0,015 to 2mcg/ml of penicillin 0,007 - 0,5 mcg/ml of ampicillin and 0,062 - 0,5 mcg/ml of cloxacillin. The similarity of MIC values was found for all types which belonged to a certain serologic type, disregarding the applied antibiotic and the insignificant differences, which was also showed by geometric means of MIC values. For some types there had been found the activity to create penicillinase enzyme. This ability did not essentially influence the MIC values in the susceptibility of investigated types of bacteria to penicillin G and ampicillin antibiotics which were susceptive to penicillinase.
