1983
Gohar, H.M. | Shigidi, M.T.A. (College of veterinary medicine and animal resources, Riyadh (Saudi Arabia))
In all infected Jersey calves the following was found: the infection of the cornea blood vessels, swollen conjuctivus and photophobia. In 16% of the cases the cornea were blurred, and in 26% the ulcus cornea was found. The treatment of intilation of teramicin ointment into the eye bag showed good results in the early stages. In cases when the desease had already progressed into ulcus cornea plastc operation of the cornea was applied. The complete healing took 5 weeks. The authors maintain that the Moraxella bovis is the cause because it was isolated from the eye bag secretion. The infection is transmitted by animals which, because of their immunity obtained from the previus infection do not show the signs of desease. Musca autumnalis fly is the vector. Climatic factors could affect the spreading of the desease.
