The influence of early weaning of calves from liquid feed by the application of various feed mixtures for calves and by giving them to drink once a day, was investigated. The investigation was performed under production conditions upon Holstein-Friesian cattle and their halfbreeds. On the basis of the obtained results the following conclusions were drawn: -In the 1st experimental group of calves which were given milk up to 50 days of age, the average daily gain of weight of 0.949 kg was reached and in the control one 0.952 kg. The daily weight gain differences were not significant(P less than 0.05). -In the 2nd experiment, the experimental group of calves, given milk up to 40 days of age reached the average daily weight gain of 0.801 kg, and the control one 0.971 kg. The differences in the daily weight gain were significant(P more than 0.05), although a satisfactory daily gain was obtained in the experimental group too. -In the 3rd experiment, the experimental group(P1) of calves that were given milk up to 30 days of age and fed with calf starter without powder milk, reached the average daily weight gain of 0.814 kg and group P2 fed with the same quantity of milk and with calf starter with powdered milk reached the average daily gain of 0.881 kg, while the control group reached 0.815 kg. The differences in the daily gain were not statistically significant (P less than 0.05). -No significant differences in the conversion of feed and nutritive matters among the feeding treatments were achieved in the experiments. -In wide production, where calves were given milk up to 30 days of age, the average daily gain achieved in one year was 0.792 kg and the total losses were 4.37%, while in another year the average daily gain was 0.778 kg and the losses were 4.46%.
