Researches show that the river of Zapadna Morava and its tributaries (SR Serbia, SFRY) are inhabited by 25 fish species belonging to 7 families, namely Cyprinidae, Centrarchidae, Percidae, Siluridae, Esocidae, Cobitidae and Cotidae. Regarding the quality composition, the Cyprinidae family is the richest in number. Twenty fish species belonging to this family are present here. Percidae are represented by 4 fish species, while other families are represented by only one species. The species Abramis brama L. (bream) is the richest in number and ichthyomass (32.13% and 27.66%). Seven more species are also very rich in number, their total ichthyomass being 89.51% and the ichthyomass of the remaining 17 species is only 10.49%. The ratio of predatory fish species and the passive one serving them for food is close to the optimum value, although introduction of pike perch (Stizostedion lucioperca L.) into one storage lake is recommended.
