Slavonia and Baranja have the best field farming production in SR Croatia (SFRY). They produce about 54.54% of wheat, 52.95% of maize and 90.30% of sugar beet. The total harvested wheat areas show a decreasing tendency at the average annual rate of -1.5%. The total achieved average yield of this crop is 41.20 dt/ha with average increase rate of 1.1%. Increase of labour productivity is dependent on quicker reduction of working hours consumption per hectare rather than on increase of achieved yield. The total maize areas decrease by b = -1948.44 hectares per annum and they are comparatively stable. The average achieved maize yield is 50.20 dt/ha. Consumption of man and tractor working hours per hectare and per 100 kg of maize grain is constantly decreasing and application of combines has advanced very slowly. Sugar beet areas increase slowly in the social sector and even decrease in the private production. The annual yield increase of 0.8% is low. Reduction of man and machine working hours consumption is considerable.
