Effect of stand density and nitrogen dose on grain yield of winter and spring malting barley

Considerably higher yields are obtained when winter double row barley (NS183) is sown in optimum period with 300 germinating seeds per 1 m2 and nitrogen content of not more than 40 kg on chernozem type soil compared to spring varieties of malt barley. Advantages of winter barley over spring double raw barley are in the percentage of the first class grain, safe yields and maturity time compared to wheat, eventhough grain protein content is higher in the winter malt barley.
