After a study of leptospire ecology in the Pannonian part of Croatia (Yugoslavia), it has established that, out of the 16 small wild mammal species examined, the striped field mouse (Apodemus agrarius) is the most numerous and the most spread species, and that it is the most frequent carrier of leptospire of the pomona serotype, out of all the leptospire serotypes found. On the basis of the obtained test results, it was concluded that the A. agrarius (striped field mouse), can be regarded as the natural reservoir of the pomona serotype leptospires.
