The cultivation of several yeast strains on xylose rich corn stover hydrolysates, has been studies for the production of protein in single-celled organisms. Best results were achieved with Trichosporon sp. 3n. Good results were also achieved with T. penicillatum 3g. If Corn Steep Liquor or molasses slop are added to the basis substratum, growth kinetics and biomass yield are improved. The method of producing hydrolysate from corn stover chemical cellulose has also been described.
