The effect of temperature ranging from 0.5 deg C to 35 deg C upon germination of conidia and ascospores, Venturia inaequalis (Cooke) Winter has been investigated. Conidia germinate at temperatures ranging from 2 deg C to 32 deg C and ascospores from 0.5 deg C to 30 deg C. Optimum temperatures for the germination of conidia are from 16 deg C to 20 deg C. Conidia and ascospores retain their viability for approximately the same time (18 and 19 days, respectively). Conidia are most viable during the first 8 days of age and ascospores in the course of the first 4 days.
