Experiments of the IUFRO provenances sitka struces (Picea sitchensis (Bong.) Carr.)

The paper presents the results obtained by investigating 14 provenances of sitka spruce (Picea sitchensis) from the IUFRO seed sample collection. Two experiments were conducted in northwest Croatia (Yugoslavia) in autumn 1977. It was established that there were no great dofferemces among the provenances in terms of survival, height and diameter growth. All provenances were found to be highly susceptible to the Armillariella mellea and Chermes sp. which is a limitation in the use of the sitka spruce in regular afforestation.
